12.31.02 happy new years! # 12.30.02 our love, our love is all we have, our love, our love is all of God's money. you thought it would never happen. a new mp3, courtesy of that "i can't get it out my head" feeling. wilco, jesus, etc.. # 12.29.02 a good review of the hours over at ny times. lots of plot spoilers though. i'm so excited to see this one! # 12.28.02 anybody have any interesting suggestions for cd organization systems? the various shelves are in different rooms, making alphabetical seem rather pedestrian. ideas? # what a lovely saturday night - cozzied up at home with movies, a boyfriend and byron & his magic weather recorder. (despite his claims otherwise, the b's Big Instrument posseses the power to bring rain, wind and hail to our fair city.) christmas was lovely, and the days that followed have brought us a fair quantity (half a van-load, natch) of new furniture. now where's my allen wrench? got a chance to see matteo, charmer that he is, twice in the last week (ask him about the "straight" guy, please). indeed, a christmas blessing for one and all. my wonderful place of employment has been so kind as to give us some holiday time off, so i find myself putting my feet up until the new year, with little to do other than build bookcases and finally put an end to the rule of the cardboard box in our new place. # 12.24.02 merry christmas, if you're reading this. i'll be back around in a few days time. # 12.23.02 socially awkward situation #154: walking home from diner, jessie and i find ourselves standing at a corner intersection, waiting to cross the street, when who do i see walk up next to us but my hair dresser. a very sweet man, his rather distinctive appearance makes him easy to spot. as both of us spot one another, the standard street-side greeting is quickly enacted. he introduces us to his partner, funny running into you, just finishing some last minute shopping, got any plans for the holiday and the light turns. all parties begin into the crosswalk, the four of us suddenly headed the same direction. the conversation continues for a second more and then, quite abruptly, less than halfway across the crosswalk, well it sure was nice running into you two see you later bye bye. end of speaking. cue crickets. does this not seem a little bizarre, abrupt, perhaps rude? what happens now? i'm shocked. i mean, what am i supposed to do with this? we all walk the next yard or two as if we're no longer standing next to each other? plus, like, i need to get a haircut soon. # 12.22.02 one of my old professors emailed me the other day. he wants to enter my senior project in some kind of university research competition, swear's it'll take an award. so very kind of him to say so, but wouldn't it say something terrible about my alma matter if my project was regarded as award-quality research? it ain't such great work, you know. # is anyone else getting tired of sexual ambiguity? # 12.21.02 northwest is the cattle car of airlines and i swear to god if one more person kicks the back of my seat i'm going to bring some real pain to the party. (this is what they call air rage.) # i think i would like minneapolis better if # 12.17.02 this week will be my death. such an exhausting combination of work and play and work. friday night, jessie's mom came to town, our guest for the weekend (plus). she's such a lovely woman, it's really a shame we're just meeting now. i however, had to leave right away, with saturday obligations down in san luis obispo. which was a pleasant, if monsoon-ish drive, i can assure you. tuesday brings me to los angeles and back again, then tonight at the company christmas party. lots of bodies and lots of drinks and one very dedicated boyfriend, who graciously allowed me to trott him around to my new work friends. tomorrow is shopping day number 1, especially since i was able to leverage some of my flight time on tuesday to finally flesh out my christmas list. thursday morning, bright and early, i'm out for minnesota, returning over the weekend, just in time for a blessed and welcome week of holiday vacation. ah, the end-of-the-year. # 12.15.02 dreamhost customers experiencing perl errors with movabletype should take note of this thread. the fix is pretty quick. # i've been busy, you've been busy. did you know that there are only 9 shopping days left until christmas? me neither. while i'm shopping, feel free to enjoy the following lovely concert review, courtesy of prosaic* friend kevin: okay let me first say, that washington dc is fucking madness like a bitch. cars drive insane, and no one obeys any driving laws whatsoever. i'd be nonchalant if a deer ran out of the post office, smashed a truck in the wrong lane, and then exploded into a million pieces. i think i'd shrug. so here's the meat + potatoes: my review of all the bands i saw tonight:
# 12.13.02 i'll be offline for a while, starting today, so don't get your panties in a bunch over it, ok? its not like i've been around here much recently anyway. have a lovely and wet weekend, everybody! # someone thinks he spotted me on the street earlier this week. now it's got me nervous. did we pass each other by? how did i miss noticing him as well? and the better question still, how did he recognize me? i only walk to and from work, really. perhaps he noticed me by the obsessive zipping and unzippping of my jacket. or perhaps he caught me singing along to the music when i thought no one was looking. maybe i was gawking at a boy. or a picture of a boy. or a cute maniquin. options are often lean in this post-dot-com wasteland. now i'm smiling at everyone i pass, in case they're someone i know-but-don't-know. already i'm afraid this tactic is going to get me in trouble. # 12.12.02 prosaic* is going to minneapolis! does anyone live there? # our neighbors across the street are putting up curtains. i wonder if this has anything to do with our window gazing habits? # 12.11.02 when did pink become the new it color? suddenly, it's the new blue. it's everywhere. am i insane, or have you noticed this? surely the signs are subtle, but i think it's pretty safe to say that we're in early stages of a pink revival. cd covers, movie titles, magazines, well-dressed fags - pink is popping up everywhere. it's sure to hit The Gap soon. # can anyone recite the common laundry room code of ethics? i mean, for instance, tonight i went down to change my laundry. to move the wash into the dry, you know? but nope, there's nowhere to move it to. because whoever (whomever?) was using the dryers (there's even an extra dryer, for god's sake) has left their clothes in the dryers, all of them, in various stages of drying. i hate to touch other people's laundry, clean or dirty, so taking it out is simply not an option. however, the fact remains that our tiny laundry room is very obviously busy tonight. it's laundry wednesday in full swing. doesn't the decent, respectable human being keep track of their drying clothes at a time like this? barbaric hethens, i swear. # has anyone seen a recent build of chimera that supports bookmarklets inline with pop-up blocking? i miss my movable type bookmarklet... # 12.08.02 a very sf christmas. does anyone know where i can find a decent fake (or real, if it's close at hand) christmas tree here in the city? i don't even know what kind of store (baring some kind of walmart) would carry fake trees. any tips from my fellow urban dwellers? # the heating obeys some strange rule that i have yet to discern. as such, my fingers are very cold, making typing a cumbersome affair. yesterday jessie and i got to see varekai, the most recent touring show from cirque du soleil, courtesy of mark and rich. it's really an amazing show to see - unbelievably beautiful and completely surprising. (and cute acrobatically inclined boys too!) i had no idea the circus could be so cool (and no beleaguered animals, either). # 12.07.02 happy birthday baby! # 12.06.02 finally, it seems i've sorted out the problems under os x on my mac. new, clean ram really did the trick - 17 days up and counting! performance, stability and an intelligent alt+tab; what more could i ask for from this old jalopy of a computer? # 12.05.02 i'm so ashamed. i caved in and let my boyfriend open his birthday gift a few days early. i wanted to play with it! # 12.04.02 have you seen ikea's new unboring tv spot? it's directed by spike jonze, and worth a look. # 12.03.02 finally, after much coaxing, the boyfriend has declared that our home may now be provided heat. and i'm ready for it. because we hate the cold. but lo, what is this? on first attempt, it seems our radiators don't even work. i'm telling you this so you'll know what to say to the authorities when they discover our stiff, frigid bodies. # the tv tells me that on december 16th, so graham norton is going to dollywood. i'm so all over this one. # thank goodness for HR5469 - soma fm is back online! # 12.02.02 can i just take a minute here to hate people? i mean, really, yuck. not you of course, just them. you understand. # hey! toyota has a working fuel cell car! very cool. wonder when we'll see it on the market? # the always helpful 9th circuit cour of appeals struck a decisive blow today to shrub jr's push for new oil exploration off california's coastline. # 12.01.02 why doesn't anyone like solaris but me? the web's awash with the blogs of those who hated it, but still i'm telling you to go see it. simply beautiful, it's a methodical film, something that lingers and takes its time, feels it's way to the conclusion. with the exception of it's ending (such an unconventional film, such a conventional ending. sad sad.) i was enthralled from start to finish. and i didn't even mind that george clooney was in it. he's kinda hot. # « November 2002 | archive index | January 2003 » built with movabletype |
