arrgghh! indecision! powerpuff girls on cable or two new episodes of Queer As Folk on tape? alright, i know QAF is a horrible, poorly done, promiscuous, sex-focused, inaccurate depiction of gay life. and some people smoke. we all have our vices...

Study examines treatment of gay and lesbian students
(via salon)

a good article, in theory, this is very poorly executed. it really becomes number soup at the end and is really hard to follow. also, i was bothered by the attribution that "[a glbt student] population has some unique risks of disease..." - how so? straight kids can get AIDS from unprotected sex too. that's such a damned narrowminded thing to say, especially in reference to high school kids. teenager's having sex are at risk. of all races, religions or sexual orientations. period.

the "gay-sensitive HIV instruction" this article talks about is a good idea, but really two separate issues. sex ed should always include HIV awareness/instruction. and diversity awareness programs should be in place in all our schools and should work to increase awareness of racial, ethnic and glbt diversity. but i'm getting ahead of myself. these programs might be very well planned, i can't argue that. this article however...

finally, in response to eddie's request we here at prosaic* would like to report that indeed, bjork is planning to release the new album vespertine this august. and for anyone who hasn't heard, machina II, the last smashing pumpkin's album is available online - the album and three ep's all in real audio and mp3. follow the above link and scroll down to "machina II" - there isn't going to be a actual disc released as i understand, so enjoy as is. there's a story behind the whole thing but i'm only vaguely familiar, so i wont go into it.

happy bootlegging!

peer-to-peer is dead, long live peer-to-peer! trash that old napster application and go get yourself a handy guntella client. try limewire! i downloaded it, installed it, signed on and downloaded an unreleased radiohead track within 10 minutes. not bad in the post-napster haze...

take that Alan Keyes! (& Jon too)

ernie (the creator of survivorBlog 1&2) has a new game. it's called Puppetmaster and it sounds like more fun than The Mole and Weakest Link combined! (that says a lot, doesn't it?) personally, i'm just waiting for him to spin a blog-game off of Temptation Island.

#

damn! eddie got his radiohead single already. :( i'm still waiting for mine to arrive from afar...

i feel the need to post more mac stuff. indeed, i am delinquent a number of weeks with an update on my weekend with os x. of course we should all note that my three day live-in experiment was conducted in 10.0.1 running IE 5.1 and lots of Classic apps. (if you're lost already, i suggest you visit apple's page for more info)

so the long and the short of it is that os x kicks major ass, and you shouldn't use it. the operating system itself is fantastic. it's stable, it's speedy and it's UNIX with some style. the interface is beautiful and apple has done a great job of making a simple, user-friendly interaction between the computer and the user. yes, the interface is nothing like your old mac. no you won't have trouble getting used to it. so what's the problem?

the finder is slow, classic is slow, the applications are bug ridden. the biggest problem seems to be that everything is written in carbon, and poorly at that. even the finder is carbon! why apple didn't write the finder application in native cocoa is beyond me, but they didn't and it shows. internet explorer is awful in version 5.1 (microsoft has released 5.1.1 - it may be better) - if you plan to use os x heavily, i suggest OmniWeb as your native browser.

should you switch to os x? not yet. this summer apple is planning to release 10.1 - a major update that should bring some real stability and usability to the platform. untill then...

the school newspaper last friday carried an editorial which discusses a subject very important to me: the penny, rotten little monger of the currency family. suffice to say, i really dislike penny's and am happy to hear that someone else agrees with me.

my host's ftp server is behaving very strangely recently - i'm afraid that I may be unable to post at any time. of course this means that if the connection goes down, i have no way of notifying you. i am planning to change servers, most likely moving to my own domain, probably within weeks. in the meantime, if something happens with this site, i have set up a virtual link at www.bigfoot.com/~street3r/ - you can always check there for updates or change your links...

"Sandra Bullock thinks I'm an Idiot"

you may be aware, as per my earlier post, that a number of movies are being filmed right here in my little hamlet. add to that list Fool Proof, a new movie staring Sandra Bullock. so as our story goes, Miss Bullock is filming in and around the downtown district of sunny San Luis Obispo, except that it's not sunny, because it's night time. which of course makes it all the more difficult for yours truly (and company) to see the rather inconvenient barricade which has been placed in the road to prevent simpletons from careening out of control into the set of the movie in pursuit of a nice cup of tea.

#

can somebody help me out here? i think i'm way behind on my gay-lingo, because i can't seem to figure out what all these boys mean when they say "hiking buddies." this must be a code or metaphore or something. i mean, i like the outdoors as much as the next guy. i even enjoy camping from time to time. but i just can't imagine that this guy is gonna be interested in a lot of outdoor time:

he did it.

so blogger's havingtrouble with firstworld eh? hehe. not surprising. firstworld is the corporate mother of sirius, the mediocre host of this site. i used to work for sirius, before they got swallowed. the only thing funnier than watching blogger staff beg (again) is the knowledge that service is still first rate at firstworld. ;)

earnie at l.y.d. provides the most concise summary of the strange fake-dead-girl incident.

#

* straight best friend moves in with ex-boyfriend.
* ex-ex boyfriend ("i just don't have time for someone else right now") discovers plans for co-habitation with new beau.
* attractive straight roommate takes girlfriend to gay dance club.
* insomnia + needing to iron = missed class & comical sequence of events.

is this:
a.) a WB pilot aimed at those wacky gay kids
b.) a day in the life

Nobody Here is perhaps the most incredible, immersive site i've come across in a long time. (via metafilter)

open your browser to full-screen, close your other apps, get a cup of tea and sit down with it. give some of your time over to it. read it. look at it. explore it. get lost in it. somebody very elusive and very wise built this site and it says quite a lot about them. this is the sort of thing other media could never do. this is what the web was built for.

as the tanks roll into town / a little bit of knowledge will destroy you /
i dunno why i feel so tounge-tied / i dunno why i feel so skinned alive

so goes the lyrics to tounge-tied, a new rh b-side to emerge from french radio in past days. fma tells us that this is actually the much anticipated cuttooth, to be released on an upcoming single [ i might be wrong (US) or knives out (UK) ].

you can give it a listen if you like, in rather dodgy quality realaudio on radio-france. click on the link for "mardi 15" (frenchie for may 15) and seek 23 minutes into the file.
update: the above can now be downloaded as an equally dodgy mp3 on greenplastic.

so i guess today is "leaf blower day" at my apartment complex. it's monday. its morning. last week it was tuesday morning. he's trying to screw with me, that leaf blower man. but i ask you, would a jury really convict me if i ran him down? lets think of it as a public service.

please take a moment to cast your vote in the potential act of bodily defamation. a handy poll appears to your left.

my neighbor has been cast as an extra and is currently filming with Mel Gibson for an upcoming movie. filming is taking place very near me in the small town of paso robles, and apparently Mel has been making some appearances. does it seem to anyone else that he's wearing a little thin these days? it's just not been the same since the days of mad max and living dangerously.

How can I cope with rejection?
Simply adjust your attitude, examining the reasons why you are rejected. If you approach the problem realistically, you will be able to correct whatever you are doing wrong in order to overcome rejection. Consider that everyone has a different type preference, and seek those who desire your particular type. If you experience rejection, simply move on; there is someone for everyone in this world. Brooding will only help build a protective shell around you and keep you from meeting so many [people] who are just waiting for someone like you.
(this and other sage advice via Jonno)

luckily i already have someone very special.

you can find the latest and greatest radiohead single at Drooling Looney Tunes right now. it's called "the amazing sounds of orgy" and its pretty score. not that i've listened much, but its got this fun, meandering rythmn that sounds sort of tribally influenced. but it's still rock, thats for sure.

research:

''There's always smoke, there's always fire, even when it rains,'' said Paz Calopez, who lives at the edge of the mountain. ''The garbage is always glowing, even at night, and you hear popping sounds. We think it's batteries exploding. It smells worse than a bathroom, especially when the bulldozers come through. Then you really smell the smoke. You cannot breathe. Your eyes water.''

- The Gazette (Montreal), July 19, 2000

this is taken from a story about the imfamous Smokey Mountain landfill/dump in Manila. in July of 2000 a portion of the mountain colapsed, killing nearly 200 shantytown residents in a landslide of burning methane and trash. please recycle

the story is a little old by now, but still quite interesting: Scientists Claim to Revive Alien Bacteria. this raises some interesting questions about the nature of life, such as will the x-files manage to incorporate this headline into the show in order to prolong it's already drawn out death?

alright, i think everything's done here for a while. i've updated the links throughout the site, and included both an archive and a links page.

also posted an mp3 through the sound page. a live performance of an awesome unreleased radiohead track (true love waits). quite beautiful and stunning. check it out and let me know what you think.

this whole site will shift to a new code-based tonight. very minimal changes will be visible to the naked eye. not that it was a simple task however. :)

found an interesting new blog tonight (via kelly). eddie likes radiohead (check out his site, super-borrowed rh graphics!) and goes to univ. in arizona. sounds like a nice kid, worth reading a little more.

#

i guess i never revisited the matter of radiohead tickets. although i lost to the ticketmaster i did succeed with W.A.S.T.E. - the radiohead fan club. i got two tickets for the San Francisco (shoreline) show, but alas, there was a mistake in the ticket ordering process and I ended up with two tickets for the Vancouver show as well. so i have to get rid of those somehow. ;) but its worth it for sure! tomorrow is the real on-sale for the rest of the tickets. i'm holding out for Santa Barbara tickets...

#

i'm home visiting my folks this weekend for mother's day so i'm all over this "56k" thing. makes all the problems Blogger is having quite fun. in interesting news, i saw Memento the other night. it was interesting, for sure, but not really what it was talked up to. the whole idea was interesting and the whole backwards thing was kinda fun a first, but really it just took away the ability to follow along. you're sort of left having to rely on the movie to feed you everything. not such a hot idea for a detective/mystery story.

#

this is pretty damned cute. reminds me a bit of my friend Pedro tho...also note the prior post regarding a blessed sighting of the Virgin Mary in my very own home!

#

what a sad few days. recent obits:

*Cliff Hillegraff, founder of the abreviated masterpieces we know as Cliff's Notes died on May 5. summary: sad.

*Perry Como, singer, former barber (!) and elevator music mainstay, passed away Saturday. summary: for god's sake, the man was 88. what did you expect?

*author of the Hitchhiker series Douglas Adams, who was not 88, died Friday in Santa Barbara, Ca. (not too far from me, something i didn't know) summary: i hope he remembered his towel.

finally, somebody really figures out what it's like for American's living on a wage - and that doesn't even begin to address the poor internationally...

and aren't i glad i didn't choose to take that job offer in Wisconsin? according to salon, Milwaukee won't fund same-sex benefits. Pabst, football, Harley Davison, cheese and sausage. figures.

last but not least, it looks like Shrub Jr. has a solution for the problem - more nuclear power. now we just have to figure out how to get rid of it when we're done, eh?

thats right America, crawl back in your hole (via salon). small-minded nationalism and the beast of American Isolationism rear their ugly heads once again. thanks, GOP-Washington!

the popular German gummy candy, Haribo, now on the web! ;-)

#

and finally, i need to put some outside links up here. if somebody with similar interests does ever happen to find my page (god forbid) the very least i can do is offer them some handy links. ;)

#

ok, last radiohead post for a while (lets hope). i put some time in last night and came up with 3 of the 4 b-sides to be released with the Pyramid Song single. (kinetic, fast track, trans atlantic drawl) they're pretty cool. kinetic is by far the best of the three, but trans atlantic is really interesting too. it has this totally rocking first half with some really rad (if simple: "do you see a light / at the end of the tunnel / you better start naming names") lyrics. then it sort of falls off into this slow, meandering tune (reminds me of a drawl - go figure) that lasts for the second half of the song. the second half is very sad and sounds like a backing track to a depressing scene in a movie. very killer alltogether.

kinetic has more interesting lyrics and this interesting synth or organ thing going on that sounds like people bleating or something. there's some really really cool vocals and effects and the tune is catchy, if a bit complex. the drums are super crazy and totally sampled/effects ladden. its a very rich song. worthy of a good pair of headphones.

#

here is a better link for the Pyramid Song video. about two thirds down the page.

#

 05.07.01

just caught the video (see below) on MTV (god save the queen). really impressive. really depressing. kicks my video's ass, but we could've guessed that yes? check it out for yourself here, but be warned - you're about to download a 19 MB mpeg.

more cool things however, as you can find three amnesiac b-sides here. enjoy kids.

#

according to an email i recieved from the record company this afternoon, mtv will be premiering the real video for Pyramid Song (radiohead) tonight at 10:00 pm on a new show called "MTV2 Presents: premieres to watch" or something like that. of course that is impossible to confirm since the entire music and supporting industries are crap and can't ever get anything right, but i'll be watching nonetheless.

#

 05.06.01

those of you with heavy bandwidth can download and view my video project from here. mind you that it is about 13mb so don't bother unless you have dsl or cable modem at least. it is a pretty nice quicktime video set to the full 4:50 version of radiohead's Pyramid Song from the new album Amnesiac. the footage was all taken with a DV camcorder in and around san francisco. if you have the patience to download it, please let me know what you think.

#

thanks for the link! if you're here via Jessie's site, let me know.

#

Now that I (should) have more time, I plan to migrate this whole site to a new code-base (you wont see a thing, unless it has looked shitty on your browser...) and start to make a few improvements. Also I hope to upload a reasonable size file of my video project as soon as I write it out to quicktime. Not that I have anywhere on this site to put it...

#

So it's been a while since I've posted much. So let's play catch up real quick:

*Jessie is back.
*Radiohead are touring the US this summer, with three shows in california.
*My baby sister's purse was stolen from her car last night, on my street. (!)
* The weather is fantastic.
* Telly Savalas is still dead.
